LIGHTHOUSE PRODUCTIONS INC. HIGH SCHOOL PLAYWRIGHTING COMPETITION

Lighthouse Productions Inc., in conjunction with The Grand Bank Regional Theatre Festival is proud to announce our first annual High School Playwrighting Competition. This is part of our mandate to promote the Professional Performing Arts on the Burin Peninsula, and to strengthen the connection between Education and the Arts.

General Regulations
1. Entries must be received or post-marked no later than December 31, 2011. Faxed or e-mail entries will not be accepted.

2. Entrants must be a high school student on the Burin Peninsula, attending levels I, II, or III.

3. Entries can be the result of individual or group work.

4. Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form which contains a signed statement that the play is original, that it has been written within the last twelve months and that it has not been published or produced previously.

5. The copyright remains the property of the entrant.

6. No written evaluation will be provided.

7. Any music used or incorporated into the original play must be of original composition. The use or indicated use of non-original music will disqualify the entrant.

8. The winning entrant will receive one full workshop of his or her play, directed by Lighthouse Productions Inc. Artistic Director Berni Stapletonm, and a staged reading starring the professional actors of the Grand Bank Regional Theatre Festival.

9. Plays must have no more than six characters, and be no lesser than forty-five minutes in length and no greater than ninety minutes in one act.

10. Entries must be typed and double spaced on 8 1/2 x 11 standard white paper.
The name, address and telephone number of the entrant should be provided on a separate sheet and not on the entry itself. Please do not indicate the name or high school or community of the entrant on any of the script, text or cover page. Please number the pages.


The Adjudication Process

11. Judges are chosen to represent the following: the professional arts community of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Burin Peninsula region, Lighthouse Productions Inc. and the high school population.

12. Entries are seen only by the Judges and the administrative staff who process them. Entries will not be returned following the competition.

13. Relatives of the Judges are not permitted to enter the competition.

14. The adjudication is a blind judging process. The identity and community of the entrant remains unknown to the adjudicators.
